dc.description.abstract | Introduction: To raise awareness and challenges in the diagnosis and management of biliary cystadenoma (BCA). Methodology: Review of a patient with BCA and current literature. Results: 43-year-old lady presented with vague abdominal symptoms and peritonitis underwent an emergency laparotomy for partial resection of a BCA. The patient represented with a recurrence of the BCA within 3 months. Conclusion: BCA is a rare condition, only 200 cases have been reported, and its pathophysiology remains unknown. High degrees of suspicion and imaging studies are keys to its diagnosis. However, this condition remains a challenge to diagnose pre-operatively since its radiological features are nonspecifi c. Pre-operative MRI is recommended for better surgical planning and prognosis. Complete resection with clear margin is gold standard treatment since recurrence in partial resection is almost universal. | en |
