| Abstract: | Background/aim: Australia’s health research landscape is diverse, with differences across federal, state, and regional levels. Regional and rural areas face distinct challenges, including limited healthcare access, workforce shortages, and higher rates of certain health conditions. Aim: To better understand local research efforts at Grampians Health (GH) and identify research strengths and gaps. Population/setting: Grampians Health, a regional health service in Victoria, Australia, serving both urban and rural communities across the Grampians region. Methods: A project was undertaken to: 1. Identify published research by GH staff. 2. Classify research using ANZSRC (Australian and New Zealand Standard Research Classification) codes. 3. Analyse GH’s research strengths and gaps. Results/findings: • A diverse range of research topics was identified across clinical and public health domains. • Key strengths included cardiology, pharmacy and surgical research along with rural health service delivery. Conclusion: GH staff contribute meaningfully to regional health research, despite systemic challenges. The findings highlight both the breadth of local expertise and areas needing further investment. Translational impact/implications for future practice: Understanding GH’s research profile supports strategic planning, funding applications, and collaboration. Addressing identified gaps can lead to more equitable, targeted healthcare solutions for regional and rural populations. |
