The permanent residents of a geriatric centre in a Victorian provincial city were surveyed to estimate the prevalence of skin cancer and to assess the results of treatment. Basal cell and squamous cell carcinoma predominated. Irradiation was the most common form of treatment and resulted in a high recurrence rate of 41.6 per cent in basal cell carcinoma and 55 per cent in squamous cell carcinoma. It would appear that irradiation is the least cost effective treatment. (Note: pp 1461, 1464, 1467-8.)en
