Abstract: Outlines the relationship between the Ballarat Health Services Library and the Research and Ethics Service within Ballarat Health Services, beginning with the Library Manager's participation in the Ballarat Health Services and St John of God Human Research and Ethics Committe (HREC). HREC is a duly constituted Ethics Committee under the guidelines of the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC). The Library Manager was able to initiate and play an active part in the BHS research arena, and to develop that role further as the library assumed a more visible role. Developing close ties with Research and Ethics services in medical libraries was highly encouraged with benefits received on both sides.
