Towards excellence in Psychiatric Services in the Central Highlands and Wimmera Region.

Abstract

Discussion paper proposing a new approach to the delivery of psychiatric services to the urban and rural population of the Central Highlands/Wimmera Region, Region 2. The paper identifies challenges confronting the region's psychiatric services. Proposed changes would incur a downsizing of the existing institution based operations in favour of developing client centred, community orientated services emphasizing the civil and human rights of individuals balanced with the need to provide psychiatric support. The paper contains the new mission statement including both the revised approach to client/patient management and service descriptions.
