Abstract: | Objective To describe the demographics, injury patterns and outcomes of pregnant trauma patients following resuscitative hysterotomy performed in the emergency department. Methods A retrospective case series reviewing resuscitative hysterotomies performed in pregnant trauma patients in the emergency department from 1 January 1999, until 30 June 2024. Results Three cases of resuscitative hysterotomy were identified. The mean maternal age was 33 years, with a mean gestational age of 33.3 weeks. Maternal survival was 33%, whereas neonatal survival was 67%. All three procedures were performed by obstetricians. Conclusions Considering the rarity of resuscitative hysterotomy following trauma, multicentre data collection, perhaps even nationwide, could further characterise this procedure. |
