Abstract: | For surgeons, the contribution of a good surgical assistant can make the difference in facilitating safe, efficient surgery – ultimately influencing improved patient outcomes. Surgical assisting affords surgical trainees invaluable exposure and experience, provides adjunctive employment for many non‐surgical medical professionals, and is increasingly becoming an attractive career choice for others. Despite this, an understanding of what constitutes a good surgical assistant has not been well elucidated. In providing a perspective on this front, we hope to generate a discussion that, in due course, will serve as a guide to excellent surgical assisting. |
