Abstract: On December 8 2007 the Ultraworld Festival rave party was held at Kryal Castle “theme” park. As a result approximately 5000 people attended the isolated location situated approximately 10 km from Ballarat Health Services Emergency Department. As a result of this rave 48 people attended on the night shift, out of a total of 148 presentations on the Sunday. Of the 48 presentations, 14 were treated for “overdoses”—3 intubated and admitted to ICU. This presentation will examine: the impact of these drug-related activities on Ballarat Health Services and the wider community; the impact and consequences of depleting the limited resources in the regional setting;the community response; and the response and support by Ballarat Health Services management.
